Top 10 Pages to Follow on Instagram

Social media is a very important concept. Regardless how some people say they dont really make us “social”, others find it helpful in many ways. Thanks to social media, we are able to promote several things, get in touch with people, we dont necessarily know, but somehow can be helpful to them and so on.

Social media platforms give us the liberty to express ourselves however we want and its great. Of course, there will be users that “over” do it but let’s just not go there.

Before my blog, i didn’t post much, i havent used my Facebook since 2013, i think. I have a personal Instagram where i post a few pics, here and there. I used to enjoy Snapchat before they changed everything cool about it. Now Twitter? Twitter is my thing. I LOVE Twitter, i go on this app religiously, if i wasnt writing this post, i’d probably be tweeting right now.

Recently, i was thinking that maybe i should make accounts specifically for the blog, that way i wouldn’t be bothering my followers with “blog posts” when they aren’t interested in any of it.

During the whole brainstorming process, i had the idea of making a “Pages to follow on Instagram” article. There are several people just like me, who wish to show the world a different image of Haïti.

After my research, i was able to find 10 amazing pages that i consider to have the same “purpose” as me.

The pages will be listed alphabetically, this way, I can avoid favoritism. Plus, I don’t think I am qualified to judge who should come first nor last because, all of them tryly do
amazing work.

@Inside_haiti_

Inside Haiti is a touristic community that Marguerite C. Vil created on Instagram, in order to show to different users the hidden face of her country and its riches. The page shows places foreigners had no idea even existed in the country. She shares with her visual contents what the media doesn’t always want to show, just to make everyone believe that Haïti is horrible country.

She says and I quote:
What people don’t seem to understand is that every country has their own problems, Haiti is not the only one so let’s fight together for Haïti because strength is in unity, just like the Haitian motto says.

@legetaway

I had the chance to talk to Laurence Girault on of the three creators of this “Tour Agency”, she was kind enough to explain the purpose of the business.

All Haitian know the beauty of his/her country. From the sea to the mountain we are fortunate and proud to have some of the most spectacular scenery. Yet, very few have visited these beautiful regions.
Well we're here to fix all of that!
Our aim in organizing "Le Getaway",  is to offer affordable travel packages that will include all forms of necessary transport, accommodation, food and beverages, all wrapped up in a festive atmosphere! That's right, tourism with a twist!
Strap on your adventure hat but don't forget your dancing shoes! 😎”.

They sometimes do those parties where famous DJ Gardy Girault, another creator, plays at the events. Unfortunately, I’ve never had the chance to participate in one of them but I am dying to. Hopefully, next time I’ll be in Haïti, they’ll be organizing an event and I’ll be able to go.

@malfiniphotography

Conrad Schutt is 37 years old, born and raised in Haïti. His mother is Haitian and father is German. Conrad lives in Cap-Haïtien and has been

managing this Instagram account for 2 years now.
When i asked him the reason behind everything, he replied:

Tired of seeing the negative images of Haïti and I decided to create a page to show the beauty that I see in Haïti.  As I don’t discount the negative side, trying to change it one pic at a time.”

I think Conrad and i could be great friends.

He also has a YouTube channel where he posts footage of his different excursions in Haïti, I’ve watched all of them and I must say it was my favorite part of the research I made for this article.

@partyinginhaiti

Firstly, Partying in Haiti (PIH) is a social platform made to inform their followers of the upcoming events during the week or week-ends, whether the event is in Haïti or not. Their main audience is obviously Haitians. They are a very active account, they have more than 20 posts a day.

Secondly, since they have about 144K followers, it attracts business owners, event planners and others to go through PIH to promote their products. Their followers are mostly between the ages of 18 and 40, which is a great market of potential consumers for any company.
PIH offers different package deals to the people wishing to promote their products and they choose which one best fits them.

Thirdly, before the page became what it is today, they were and still are event planners. They have many successful events such as “Afro Reggae” an event that happens every year, in December. This year will be their 5th edition.
Personally, I will say that I’ve been going to this event every year since 2014, will probably go this year again. I only missed the one in 2015, normally it’s one of the biggest parties Haïti has during the holidays, they often bring out international artists, for example, last year there was famous Jamaican singer Konshens.
With the same purpose of creating their own events, they also try to create new ones with a twist, for example, last month there was the “BarHop”. Basically, you hop in one of their buses, you don’t know where you’re going, it stops in different places around town, last time they stopped at 4 different bars. You get free drinks and shots. I’m not much of a drinker but it does seem like something I’d try withmany
friends for a good time.

In order to make this article, I had to get in touch with one of the creators of the page and got the opportunity to talk to Louis Robert Malbranche. He says that the page tries as much as possible to promote young artists, new platforms, etc and the first post is always free. Even if the person
doesn’t come to him personally, if he sees a flyer that respects the conditions he sets for PIH, he will post it since it is already on the internet. Now once this is done, if the person behind the product wants to be pushed even further or needs help, that’s where the publicity package deals come in.

Over the years PIH has worked with NGOs, collecting food events, anything that has to do with the Haitian community and the social aspect. If it’s for a good cause they are in. They encourage any Haitian that does something positive whether they are in Haiti or not. Even if it has nothing to do with partying, as long as it represents Haiti in a good light, they are all for it.
When I reached out to the page, I didn’t know what the outcome would’ve been but I’m very grateful Louis Robert agreed to talk to me and I hope I explained everything in the right words.

@waitthatshaiti

Their page is dedicated to show a different image of Haïti, which is positive and encourages travelers to come discover the country. It allows, the Haitian “diaspora” also to rediscover their home throughout the pictures taken by photographers they are partners with.
They also have a clothing brand, you can check it out on this website: https://www.teambwb.com/waitthatshaiti

Bonus

@Chaseroute509

They are group of young adults who promote excursions in Haïti in hopes of changing the negative views on the country. Their next event will be July 21rst, at Bassin Bleu Jacmel.
